Live telecast at Yishun Stadium saw a pathetic crowd attendence. But the Sembawang fans made themselves heard when given a chance. Gusta was given a gentle remainder how his so-called "pressure" from the Sembawang fans got to him and left Sembawang just like that. And unlike him, his team mate, also ex-Sembawang Rangers player Roy Yeo, was given a warm welcome. A banner "We'll fight the death sentence" says it all, the attitudes of the Sembawang fans.
The match itself wasn't exciting to me personally because after reading the match programme, my mind wasnt in the game in the 1st half. The stable news article made me think: even if Sembawang has someone like Roman, will it really help? Yes, it may help and save Sembawang, but still there are fundamental flaws in the thinking of the FAS, the football authority in Singapore. If they did not change their mindset on what is really important in football and how football should really run, then if sooner or later, even if Sembawang is not the club to be out, football in Singapore is already in ruin.
Anyway, back to match itself, I was surprised to see Pitipong in the subs bench. I knew he was poor in form for the past couple of matches. He seemed a pace or two slower. But when I was expecting him to be dropped in earlier matches, he wasnt. After Sembawang went a goal down thanks to Rafi Ali who scored for Jurong, Sembawang brought on 1st Pitipong and later Norfahazly Kamsan to change the situation. And the fans were rewarded when Kamsan dribbled past two Jurong defender. And facing the goalkeeper and instead of shooting himself, he chose to pass it to Pitipong who was totally unmarked and Pitipong made no mistake scoring the equaliser.
But in the end, the match ended 1-1 and Sembawang lost on penalties 4-5. But in my mind, it is all about sponsorship for Sembawang, and the thinking whether is it really worth for me to continue my support since the people who holds the key to the future of Singapore football, the FAS, still did not have a clue what is fundamentally important in football and having a long term plan for our local football.
