EXCLUSIVE from totalfootball
SINGAPORE, 2 November 2003 (TF) - In the latest twist in which current team will be in or out of 2004 S-League, western club Jurong FC is likely to sit out after its main sponsor for this season, Maxell, did not extend its sponsorship for the next season. Talks over a possible merger between Jurong and Sengkang Marine FC also broke down.
Due to this development, Tanjong Pagar United FC, which was tipped, together with Sembawang Rangers FC and Sengkang Marine FC, to sit out of next year's S-League, will remain in the league after all.
To date, 1998 Double Cup winners Tanjong Pagar has got its current main sponsor JVC to sponsor the Jaguars for another year. However, the club is still sourcing for another co-sponsor.
The S-League is likely to call for an emergency meeting tomorrow.
Last Wednesday, in a press conference at Jalan Besar, Japanese side Albirex Niigata announced their participation for next year's League. They will join another foreign team - China-based Sinchi FC.
